A spiritual awakening is often less like an opening and more like a disruption. The framework you had for understanding your life stops holding. Things that mattered lose their weight. You find yourself pulled toward questions and experiences you did not used to take seriously. It can be disorienting even when it is also, clearly, pointing toward something real.
What I look at
I look at what is genuinely opening in the person who comes to me with this. Whether what they are experiencing is what it appears to be, or whether it is something else wearing the same clothes. I look at what is being asked of them by this shift, and what they are being asked to leave behind. I look at what is coming next in the process, as best as I can see it.
I have been doing this work since 1975, and I have been in this territory my whole life. I do not romanticise spiritual experience, and I do not dismiss it. I report what I find, as plainly as I can, without the language that inflates these things beyond their real shape.
