Name Numerology Calculator
Enter a name to see its letter values and one Expression Number calculation. This is public arithmetic under a stated convention, not my private reading of a person.
Calculate from a name
For a birth-name calculation, enter the full name given at birth, including middle names. You can use any name to inspect the arithmetic. The letters are processed only in your browser and are not sent to my site by this calculator.
Use A-Z letters. Accented Latin letters are treated as their unaccented form; spaces, apostrophes, periods, and hyphens add no value. For another writing system, choose a transliteration deliberately rather than assuming one spelling is universal.
Expression Number under this method
What this number is
In the Pythagorean name-number convention, the letters of a full birth name are assigned values from one to nine. Their sum is reduced to a single digit, except that 11, 22, and 33 are retained when they appear during reduction. This result is commonly called an Expression Number. Some sources call it a Destiny Number. The label does not turn it into a forecast or a measurement of a person's abilities.
I show every value and each reduction step so that you can check the result yourself. You do not need to provide a birth date, email address, or payment to do the arithmetic here. A name-number result is separate from the date-based Life Path calculation. Neither result by itself is my written Numerology Blueprint, which considers four numbers and the context you give me.
For a personal birth-name calculation, the exact spelling matters. A second middle name, a changed surname, or a different transliteration changes the total. If your original name is uncertain, do not guess and treat the output as settled. The calculator can answer only for the sequence of Latin letters entered into it.
The A-Z letter values
The pattern repeats after every ninth letter. A, J, and S are one; B, K, and T are two, and so on. The complete mapping is below. It is a rule of this numerology convention, not a property that a letter has outside the system.
| Value | Letters |
|---|---|
| 1 | A, J, S |
| 2 | B, K, T |
| 3 | C, L, U |
| 4 | D, M, V |
| 5 | E, N, W |
| 6 | F, O, X |
| 7 | G, P, Y |
| 8 | H, Q, Z |
| 9 | I, R |
I add the values of every letter in the whole entered name before reducing. I do not reduce each first, middle, or last name independently and add those intermediate results. Both procedures exist in published numerology material, and they can preserve different intermediate master numbers. If another calculator disagrees, check its order of operations before comparing interpretations.
This whole-name approach follows the Expression Number explanation at Numerology.com. The reference describes how the letters are summed; it does not establish that numerology can predict an event. My public calculator is a demonstration of that arithmetic, not a disclosure of every choice I make in private interpretive work.
A worked name calculation
Take the example name Nicholas Evan Smith. The values for Nicholas are N 5, I 9, C 3, H 8, O 6, L 3, A 1, S 1. They add to 36. Evan gives E 5, V 4, A 1, N 5, for 15. Smith gives S 1, M 4, I 9, T 2, H 8, for 24. Add all three parts: 36 + 15 + 24 = 75. Then add the digits of 75: 7 + 5 = 12. Add the digits of 12: 1 + 2 = 3. Under the stated rule, the result is 3.
Check by hand: Nicholas 36 + Evan 15 + Smith 24 = 75; 75 becomes 12, then 3. Enter the three names above to compare each displayed letter value with the mapping table.
There is no special meaning assigned to the example person. It is a worked sum, not a character description. You can use the tool on a fictional name just as well as a real one. That can be useful when you only want to understand the procedure before deciding whether to enter personal details.
If the total is already 11, 22, or 33, this calculator stops there. If a later digit sum becomes one of those values, it stops at that point. Some numerologists reduce those numbers further or retain them only at certain stages. I do not present a different convention's answer as an error without first establishing which rule it uses.
Spelling, privacy, and limits
An accent over a Latin letter is removed for this calculation, so an accented E is counted as E. This is a practical input rule, not a claim that spelling distinctions do not matter to a person's identity. Names written in another script need a chosen Latin transliteration before this particular A-Z method can be applied. Two reasonable transliterations may produce two different totals. The calculator does not select one for you.
The form calculates in this browser. It has no submit request, does not save the name in browser storage, and does not place it in the page address. If you do not want to type a real name, use the mapping table and work it out on paper. Optional site analytics are governed by the separate tracking choice shown on the site; the typed name is not an analytics event.
A calculated number cannot tell me whether a person is trustworthy, whether a relationship will last, which job to accept, or what a family member is thinking. It cannot diagnose illness, establish legal facts, or guarantee an outcome. The symbolic interpretation of a number is not scientific evidence of personality or fate. I would not make a costly decision based on the displayed total alone.
For the Numerology Blueprint, I need your full birth name and birth date. If your original name changed early in life, describe that history in the order note instead of trying to settle it with a calculator. My journal note on the four numbers explains how the Expression Number sits beside Life Path, Soul Urge, and Personality. I read those together rather than selling a stock paragraph for one result.
Questions about name numerology
Is the Expression Number the same as the Life Path Number?
No. This page calculates from letters in a name. The Life Path calculation uses a date of birth. The two can happen to produce the same digit, but that does not make them the same input or the same part of a chart.
Should I use my current name or birth name?
This convention uses the full name given at birth for a birth-name Expression Number. You can calculate another name to compare arithmetic, but do not quietly substitute it and describe the result as the birth-name number.
Why does another calculator give me a different answer?
Check the exact spelling, transliteration, treatment of punctuation, and reduction order. Some methods reduce each name part before combining them. This page sums all letter values first and keeps 11, 22, and 33 during reduction.
Is the public result a personal reading?
No. It displays values and a total. My CA$65 Numerology Blueprint is a separate written report delivered by email within 3 days. It interprets four numbers in context and does not come from this form.
Does a master number guarantee anything?
No. The term describes a stopping point in this convention. It does not make someone superior, predict an event, or promise a result from a reading.
